What I *think* finally fixed it was a solution found here. I did a lot of button pushing and of moving ringtone files from one folder to another and deleting them again. I don't really believe in jinxes, but I can't help feel like it could go belly up after I post this.Īfter about 12 hours of working properly, I think the problem is solved. If anyone has an other ideas besides a reset, I'm all ears. Something is causing it to refuse to keep the assigned ringtone and replace it with the single tone 6626. So now I'm looking at having to do a factory reset, which puts me really close to getting rid of it.

I had the nerve to restart the phone, not in safe mode, and then found that it had once again gone back to "6626." I suppose I should have left it in safe mode for several hours, but I don't have the patience with these things I once did. I started it in safe mode and chose that ringtone again, and it worked for an hour or so. So I tried using a ringtone that came with the phone. Several hours later I found that it had reverted to the same single tone to which the phone assigns the number "6626" under Ringtone in the Sound dialog. It worked when I called the phone through Skype, so I thought all was well. That caused the phone to put the ringtone in the folder Android/media//Ringtones as it should. I used the method suggested by Nikhil rather than putting the ringtone in the folder in a file folder app. When that one wouldn't work, I found the same one from another source and downloaded and tried it, but that file wouldn't work either. One of the ringtones I tried was downloaded from the web several years ago and used since then on other phones. ogg file and placing them in the soundpicker folder.

They continue to show up in the My Sounds category in the Ringtones picker, but the phone isn't converting them to a usable.
